I *heart* learning....

I have discovered in my adult years that I have a real thirst for knowledge...I really crave learning new techniques, new ideas, new materials and I'm on a constant search for anything that fits in this category. Many of you know that I live in an area that offers very little in the way of classes so I rely heavily on the internet for this. I read blogs, follow link after link, sign up, join sites, take this and take that and I love it, 99% of the time. This project is one of those..aha moments...must learn technique...searched & searched until I stumbled across Ten Seconds Studio  As much as I wanted to jump right in and buy all that Ten Seconds Studio has to offer I tempered my desire and went on a search for a kit. This is what I found at  Jack & Cat Curio blog, exactly what I wanted...a kit that gave me the opportunity to work with metal and dabble in some Steampunk art.

This is so much easier to create than appears and it is definitely a technique I will use again. After apply the metal strips {self adhesive} and creating the embellishments it all went together in a jiffy with Helmar's 450 Quick Dry Adhesive. I was able to finish this in an evening...now that's the type of project I like working on! I love my plaque, I love the metal, I love the technique. And this is what happens when I go out searching for knowledge!!! Hope you enjoyed your visit...I've been neglecting my blog...only because my "real" job interferes with my "REAL" life.

Fabric + Tattered Angels = YUMMY STUFF ;)

I had so much fun doing this month's projects...working with fabric. Clothing & Textile Arts was my minor in college...spending most of my time either in clothing labs or in the art building taking fiber arts courses. I've been a quilter & quilt instructor, cross stitch, needlepoint and weaver {even had my own loom}. Working with the Tattered Angels paint mediums brings me back to all these past endeavors. My heart now is with with paper arts and multi-media...but incorporating fabric is high on my list.

What do you get when you mix  fabrics & laces with Tattered Angels paint mediums??? COLOR...COLOR...COLOR!
My 1st project involves white wool felt and Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist & Glam. Felt flowers have been all the rage and you will find a plethora of tutorials and patterns online for these flowers. I chose to work with wool felt knowing that while damp I could mold it into any shape I wanted to.  Using a basket from my collection I created a rose, camilla, violet, hydrangea and a small bud along with hand shaped petals to freshen it up. With a few butterflies, some bling and antique lace this basket is now ready to welcome Spring.
Materials used: white wool felt, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist {S.W.A.K., Pashmina, Vintage Rose, Delphinium, Spring Violet, Bubbles}, Tattered Angels Chalkboard Mist{Cotton Candy, Grape Ape, Firefly} and Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam {Love Potion No. 9, Royal Velvet, Private Memo}. Prima/Marion Smith Vintage Trinkets, Butterflies, Candy Gems.

Spring Basket

Next up is a white Nine West cotton guaze scarf I found at TJ Maxx. I wanted to try stamping and hand painting to create a random border along the bottom of the scarf. I used Tattered Angels Architectural Trims {Screen Print Clear Stamps}, Black Staz-on Ink and Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam in Love Potion No. 9, Private Meadow, Royal Velvet, Mermaid and Tidal Pool.

Hand Stamped & hand painted scarf.

My final project this month is going to become a cover for my very 1st Art Journal. I used 2 -  4x6" canvas pages, sewed together and screen printed the top with Tattered Angels Screen Print and Glimmer Mists from the 2011 Spring Bahaman Cruise colors {Sun Sister, Marmalade, Rum Punch, Puerto Rico,Bahama Blue, Trunk Bay}. The ivory twill pleated ribbon from Pink Paislee {discontinued but should be brought back} was then sprayed to match along with Prima canvas letters and flower. Using Tim Holtz's Heart Wings die-cut I cut white felt that was then painted and shaped with Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam {Peach Bellini, Rockin' on Sunshine}. To finish it I doodled my title and outlined the screen print and stitching.

Close up.

I hope you enjoyed these projects...the Design Team has now worked with wood, glass, canvas, metal and fabric. I am so excited to learn how well these Tattered Angels paint mediums work outside the realm of just paper...it opens a whole new world has to what and how you create.
See you next month...Martha

Musings...

There is something that is bothering me...I know that postage, shipping & handling across the world is expensive...that is TOO bad because there is gorgeous product from all over. Here is this stunning paper from Studio-2-Mers, located in France. I got the name of the company from Nathalie Kahlbach while trying to locate her line of fabulous papers. I'm on a hunt for Nat's paper and also Birgit Koopsen's line...I will be back to post about their paperlines later. Even though the online boutique is in French I still was able to order what I wanted and shipping was cheaper than some companies here in the states.

Don't get me wrong...I do believe in supporting all US companies but as an artist it is so nice to work with some new & fresh ideas. I created this LO for Scrap-Matrix and was pleased as punch with the design. I really wish that the universe of scrapbookers could share products without it costing an arm and a leg...just a thought!
